A Message from Our Principal

Dear St. Kieran Catholic School Families,

Pastor taking a photo with the children in front of the statue of Jesus

Welcome to March! I cannot believe how fast our year and each of these months is progressing. We are in the Lenten season where we are focusing on fasting, almsgiving, and repentance. We celebrated Ash Wednesday to begin our Lenten journey and all of our Catholic Scholars participated in our Lenten Retreat. Fr. Ben will be hearing confessions in grades 5–8. Our middle school scholars are leading us each Friday in Stations of the Cross. Families are welcomed to join. Our eighth graders will participate in their eighth grade retreat at Santee Lakes facilitated by our Youth Ministry and Whispering Winds. Our second graders are preparing for their Sacrament of Reconciliation that will take place on March 2.

Tuesday, March 19 we celebrate St. Joseph with a special Mass at 10:00 a.m. Our Diocese Superintendent Leticia Oseguera will visit Mass as well. We invite our families to attend.

We continue to have first Friday Benediction & Adoration on the first Friday of each month.

We are excited to Welcome Auxiliary Bishop Pulida to our school Mass on Wednesday, February 28. We have a very special Mass planned with musical accompaniment. Families are invited to attend. Mass will be at 10:00 a.m.

All scholars will participate in vision and hearing screening the week of February 26. The Academic Decathlon Team will be competing at St. Augustine on March 2. This is our first year participating. We welcome all our families to come cheer on St. Kieran. Intramural sports are in progress. Thank you Coaches! Lego Robotics will have a spring competition too. Coach Bachoua is continuing to lead our team on April 28. Leprechaun traps are due March 13.

St. Kieran Catholic School is officially in open enrollment. If interested in our mighty, Catholic jewel of a school, please complete the inquiry form that is on our website. Our office will contact you to set up an appointment and school tour.

Progress reports will be going home in Thursday envelope on February 29. Please be sure to review your child’s report; I encourage you to invite a conversation in celebrating their hard work and eliciting a conversation in goal setting and the next steps to grow academically.

I want to take a moment and thank you for your dedication and investment in your scholar's Catholic education. You are their first teacher, role model, and spiritual director for life. It is evident in your child's everyday actions and interactions. Academic achievement begins with the commitment to attend school every day, on time. Academic achievement begins in kindergarten where scholars begin their education journey by learning social skills, self-regulation, effort, and task completion. Each grade builds upon the previous with additional layers of knowledge and skills to move forward. Self-discipline is a skill that requires commitment and resiliency to learn and grow through the most challenging circumstances.

You and your scholar are witnessing the increased level of rigorous instructional program, high expectations, and accountability. Ask your child what he or she is most proud of in their learning.

Catholic Education is a pillar of evangelization for our communities and our world, forming young men and women holistically as persons: morally, intellectually, athletically, and spiritually. Our Catholic school teachers, our coaches, myself, Mrs. Tomasello, Fr. Ben; We challenge our scholars to engage in critical learning, teamwork, and ultimately to embrace the challenge to become Saints through their actions and abilities.

Finally, I leave you with this.............
"Catholic education is above all a question of communicating Christ, of helping to form Christ in the lives of others." -St. John Paul ll

Thank you St. Kieran Families!
Our Mighty Catholic School is blessed!

Blessings,
