New Parent Night

Please join us for our new parent night on Wednesday, August 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall. Meet the people you need to meet and receive all the news and information you will need to know for the 2023–2024 school year. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. New families will not want to miss this!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences will take place on Thursday, April 11 and on Friday, April 12. Your conference time and date is in your Thursday envelope. We look forward to sharing your student’s progress with you.

Book Fair

Our school book fair will take place on Monday, March 18 through Friday, March 22. There will be items for all ages and grade levels. Check it out, and support our library! All purchases through the book fair benefit our school.

Academic Decathlon

This year for the first time, our SKCS scholars will enter the Academic Decathlon. Led by our adventurous coaches, Diane Adkins and Mrs. Steck, our scholars will compete on Saturday, March 2 at SAHS. This is truly a vigorous learning experience for our scholars and one we hope to continue in future years. Thanks to Collin Adkins, Ryne and Skye Corpuz, Carleen Shauya, and Sebastian Razuki for competing, and good luck!

Together We Rise 10th Anniversary OLP Women’s Symposium

Open to the entire San Diego community, from high school students to seasoned business professionals, the 2024 "Together We Rise" OLP Women’s Symposium features a series of workshops and highly curated panels featuring prominent leaders discussing their professional career journey and the partners who have championed them, helping support their pathway to success. The dates for the symposium are March 7 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and March 8 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Visit the OLPWS website for details.

Lenten Food Drive

St. Kieran Catholic School is hosting a Lenten food drive from Wednesday, February 14 through Wednesday, March 20. Please remember those who are struggling to put food on the table for their families. Items in need include canned foods, peanut butter, pasta, jam, nuts, and cereal. Put donations in the box by your child’s classroom. Thank you!

No School

There is no school on Monday, February 19 in observance of Presidents Day. Enjoy your long weekend!

Stations of the Cross

St. Kieran Catholic School students will celebrate the Stations of the Cross each Friday during Lent at 2:15 p.m. All families are welcome to join us.

Easter Break

Easter break begins on Holy Thursday, March 28 and continues through Friday, April 5. School resumes on Monday, April 8. Enjoy your holiday and break!

Thank You

We would like to thank everyone for your participation in our Catholic Schools Week Initiative for the Heifer Project! SKCS raised $456 which is enough to purchase 22 flocks of chicks. Through the gift of a flock of chicks, you help lift an entire out of poverty. Each flock of chicks provides nourishment and boosts a family's income. Well done!

Home Plate Club

Thank you to all our families who participated in the Gala. A huge shout-out to Connie and Bobby Tellez, DJ Eddie V, and the Gala Committee! It was a fabulous evening building our mighty school, parish, and community family. Look for awesome photos coming soon!

Vision Screening

February 26 through 29 we will have vision screening for preschool, kindergarten, grades 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and new students. This is a service offered to our school by the Elks. More information will come soon. We will need two volunteers!

Re-Registration

Don't forget about registering! Log in to your family portal to register. The deadline is April 20, 2024. If you are referring a new family who decides to register, you get $250 off your tuition. There is an $11 per student application fee for returning families to re-register. The fee will come out of your FACTS account.

No School

There is no school for students on Friday, January 26 due to a teacher work day. Enjoy your long weekend!

Service Hours Report

Be sure to log your service hours in your FACTS family portal. We will be sending out a second quarter report in the February 1 Thursday envelope.

Open House

We invite you to join us on Sunday, January 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for our St. Kieran Catholic School and Preschool Open House event. Please encourage your family and friends to come and visit our school, as well! It just might be a good fit for their children!

Scrip Fundraiser

You can instantly start earning dollars for the school while you shop with the RaiseRight app. While you are in line at one of the many stores that have e-gift cards, you can purchase the card and then pay your bill right from your phone and the school gets a percentage of the gift card purchase. It's super easy! If you want to see in person how it works, stop by our school office in the afternoon. If you want a bulk order or a physical card, contact Kathy Smith.

St. Kieran Catholic School Gala

The St. Kieran Catholic School gala is on Saturday February 3 at the Home Plate Club in Petco Park. There will be silent and live auctions, raffles, class baskets, dinner, and more. Do not miss this great time!

School Improvements

A state-of-the-art high-definition camera surveillance system has been installed campus wide to monitor the church and school campus. Our middle school parents now have access to their scholar’s grades and course work right from our family portal. We are very grateful for both of these improvements!

Winners of the Soccer Camp Essay

Congratulations to Shane Hormiz who won the soccer camp essay! Niquiel Bendak and Vinny Tomasello were the runners-up. Students had an opportunity to win a $600 soccer camp. They had to write an essay with the topic, "If Jesus played soccer, what position would He play and why?" There was a judging panel of three. The runners-up received a backpack and a soccer ball.

Advent Wreath Sale

The 2023–2024 SKCS Advent wreath sale, presented by student council, will take place on November 27 through December 1 after school in the cottage. A set of four 10” tapers is $8, and a 6” brass wreath is $12. All sales will come with a complimentary Advent wreath blessing.

Thanksgiving Break

There is no school on Monday, November 20 through Friday, November 24 for our Thanksgiving break. School resumes on Monday, November 27. Have a wonderful holiday!

Candygrams for Sale

Candygrams are a way to write a special friend or family member a note wishing them a Merry Christmas and letting them know they are loved. Each gram is $1.00. We will sell candygrams in front of the eighth grade classroom December 4 through December 8, from 2:45 to 3:00 p.m.

Campus Improvement Update

We will demolish the old playground on November 13 to make way for our new playground! November 20 SKCS & the church will be having solar installed! The school office door will be locked at all times, and we will “buzz” you in! 

Background Checks

If you are planning on going on any field trips or attend school events, please make sure you give yourself two weeks to complete the background check. If you have completed a Live Scan, they do not expire. If you complete a background check through CMG, they do expire. Check your expiration date.

Jogathon

Our jogathon day is on Thursday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m. Students should wear their jogathon t-shirts, PE shorts, athletics shoes, and some fun accessories. We are looking forward to a great day!

There is no school on Friday, November 10 in observance of Veterans Day. Enjoy your long weekend!

Parent Workshop: Cyber Internet Safety

Save the date for our cyber internet safety parent workshop on Monday, November 6 at 6:00 p.m. in Divine Mercy Hall. The presentation will bring awareness to ensure that you and your children are safe.

There is no school for students on Friday, October 20 due to a teacher professional learning day. Enjoy your long weekend!

Halloween Parties

Halloween parties will take place on Tuesday, October 31. Set up is from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m., the parade is at 1:45 p.m., and the party will begin after the parade. Students can wear costumes all day. We do not allow weapons, super scary costumes, masks, or excessive face paint. Please note that all party food must be pre-packaged and store bought.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences will take place on Thursday, November 2 and on Friday, November 3. You will find your conference schedule in the October 19 Thursday envelope. We look forward to sharing your student’s progress with you.

Parents in Prayer

We invite you to join us for parents in prayer every Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the St. Mary’s room. We look forward to seeing you there!

Birthday Celebrations at School

We ask that you please only being pre-packaged or items from a bakery for school birthday celebrations. We do not allow homemade items. Always bring treats to the office, and arrange an appropriate time with the teacher. Thank you!

Art Docent

Please join us for our art docent meeting on Friday, September 15 after drop off. See what fun new projects we have in store for our Catholic scholars!

Dads and Donuts

Please join us for dads and donuts on Friday, September 22 from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

Medical Appointments

If your child has a medical appointment during school hours, we can issue she/he an excused absence only if you present a slip from the medical office verifying attendance at the appointment. Ask for one at the medical office and present to school office on return.

Uniform Reminders

Please remember that our uniform shoes should be all black. Students can wear a watch but refrain from wearing jewelry. Only exceptions are for girls, single post earrings and religious necklaces under uniforms.

Back-to-School Night

Our back-to-school night is on Thursday, September 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. You do not want to miss this!

Lego Robotics Meeting

Lego robotics is open to all 4th through 8th grade students. There will be an informational meeting on Friday, September 8 at 3:00 p.m. The meeting is for students and parents to learn about the lego robotics competition and all of the activities for the year. Depending on sponsorships, there will be a cost associated with joining the team. Cost will cover equipment, competition, swag, food, etc.

Digital Citizen Workshop

We invite all families to a free digital citizen workshop on Thursday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m. in Divine Mercy Hall. We hope to see you there!
